a freeze warning is also now in effect from late tonight
through friday morning except for the coastal zones of the florida big bend and panhandle and the interior southeast florida big bend…

freezing temperatures continue to creep southward across the forecast area this morning. most areas within the warning that have not already done so should drop to freezing or below for a couple of hours around sunrise. another light freeze is expected tonight…although the threat area will retreat north of i-10.

the National Weather Service in tallahassee has issued a freeze warning, which is in effect from midnight EST /11 PM cst/
tonight to 8 AM EST /7 AM cst/ friday. the freeze watch is no longer in effect.

* temperatures, actual lows will range from 26 to 32 degrees in the warned area this morning. minimum wind chill readings will be in the lower to mid 20S. actual lows friday morning will be similar, although the freeze line will retreat a bit further to the north.

* timing, freezing temperatures should only last for an hour or or two after sunrise today. total freeze durations tonight will be as long as 8 hours over southeast alabama, but will only be around 2 hours for rural portions of the inland florida
counties.

a freeze warning means sub-freezing temperatures are imminent or highly likely. sub-freezing temperatures for these durations could kill crops and sensitive vegetation. exposed pipes are typically safe at these temperatures.

in the wake of a strong cold front…much colder and drier air will continue to surge into the region from the northwest. this will set the stage for a widespread light freeze across the
region on tonight into thursday morning. temperatures are expected to be below freezing for up to 6 to 8 hours in many locations across southeast alabama and southwest georgia with up to 4 to 6 hour durations over the florida big bend and panhandle away from the immediate coast. areas along the immediate coast are not expected to drop below freezing…however…due to the stronger winds there…widespread wind chills in the lower to middle 20s are anticipated over the entire region.

through thursday morning…

a strong cold front will push through the region tonight with much colder and drier air building in from the northwest. high temperatures on wednesday will not recover very much from the overnight lows tonight…with maximum temps ranging from the mid 40s to the north and west over parts of southeast alabama to the mid 50s to the south and east over southeastern sections of the florida big bend. this cold air will set the stage for a likely widespread freeze across the region on wednesday night into
thursday morning. temperatures could be below freezing for 3 to 6 hours in many locations…and when combined with the wind…wind chills could range from 22 to 30 degrees.

in the wake of yesterday’s cold front…a much colder airmass will continue to overspread the local region through early monday. with lighter winds…expect up to four hours of temperatures at or below freezing in the hours bracketing sunrise. therefore a freeze watch was issued for a widespread light freeze for these areas. several locations across the border counties of florida may also reach freezing temperatures for a few hours.
